SUBJECT: Memorial's Faculty of Business Administration becomes CIM Nationally Accredited

DATE: November 2, 2010

The Faculty of Business Administration is pleased to announce it is Certified in Management Nationally Accredited by the Canadian Institute of Management, a leading provider of nationally recognized, federally charted professional management certification.
This accreditation means that the faculty’s undergraduate degree programs automatically meet the academic requirement portion of the Certified in Management professional designation (CIM).
Students enrolled in the bachelor of commerce, bachelor of business administration, and international bachelor of business administration undergraduate degree programs will automatically achieve the first requirement needed to obtain the CIM designation. The two steps remaining in the certification process are membership in the Canadian Institute of Management and the completion of two years managerial work experience. Co]op or internship placements will count toward this required experience if they contain elements of managerial experience.
“This accreditation gives students an added incentive to choose one of our undergraduate degree programs,” said Dr. Wilfred Zerbe, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. “The fact that our programs were seen as substantial enough to meet CIM’s academic requirement demonstrates that we are a leader in business education.”
The accreditation will be announced in an upcoming issue of the national magazine the Canadian Manager and will also be promoted on the Canadian Institute of Management website. An official accreditation certificate will be presented to the faculty in late November.
