SUBJECT: Grenfell PSA: Grenfell Opera Series begins new season

DATE: October 1, 2009

The Grenfell Opera Series begins another season with an 18th-century opera from the early classical period by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

Orphée et Eurydice (Orpheus and Eurydices) is based on the tragic Greek classical myth of Orpheus, who must use his celestial musical talents to journey through the underworld to retrieve his beloved Eurydices.

This 2000 production is directed by John Eliot Gardiner. Accompanied by the Monteverdi Choir, the stage set is fairly minimalist and highlights the acting and the singing. Overall, it promises to be a stellar performance!

The opera presentation will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in FC2014 of the Forest Centre. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Ron Richards will provide an introduction and a synopsis.
