SUBJECT: Grenfell: New program tackles workforce demographics and planning

DATE: October 10, 2009

Shifting demographics in the labour market dictate that businesses and organizations think ahead to ensure human resource requirements are met.

Community Education’s new course Succession Planning presents a workforce development strategy – a systematic method of identifying key positions and developing internal successors.

“Businesses, not-for-profit organizations and government agencies can benefit from succession planning, which ensures human resources are prepared to achieve your organizations long-term goals,” said Marilyn Forward, program developer, Community Education.

Participants will learn about succession planning and how it benefits organizations, the factors that make succession planning necessary for businesses and organizations, best practices of succession planning, the challenges of implementing a succession plan and the four steps to succession planning. They will also be given opportunity to develop an action plan to begin implementing a succession plan.

Facilitated by Lynn Best, Memorial’s manager of Succession Planning, the workshop will foster a collaborative learning environment where participants can expect to learn with and from each other.

Succession Planning will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
