SUBJECT: Grenfell: New program addresses special event planning

DATE: October 10, 2009

When resources are limited, organizing special events often falls on the shoulders of volunteers.

Typically, these volunteers are working full-time while also managing life and family. Without the proper training and experience, the undertaking of such an endeavour can leave a person feeling overwhelmed, over burdened and frustrated.

“Meeting and Event Planning will help to alleviate some of the stresses associated with special event planning by teaching busy people how to manage their time wisely while also providing some of the basic fundamentals necessary for effective event planning,” said Marilyn Forward, program developer, Community Education.

Participants will learn the basics of time management, the importance of delegating, how to write a critical path and event plan and the importance of prioritizing, among other topics.

The workshop will take an interactive approach to learning by engaging the group in discussions directly associated with actual events that are being planned by the participants. It will take place Friday, Nov. 20, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Facilitator Sheri Baltzer, Grenfell College’s conference services co-ordinator, will facilitate the workshop.
