SUBJECT: PSA: Final leg of Canada's Multi-Gigabit National Research Network to be officially launched

DATE: September 5, 2008

Officials from Memorial University and CANARIE will be launching the final leg of Canada's Multi-Gigabit National Research Network at a ceremony being held on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.
The event begins at 12:30 p.m. in room IIC-2014, located in the Inco Innovation Centre on Memorial's St. John's campus. Media agencies are invited to send representatives. There will be a reception following. Dr. Andrew Bjerring, president of CANARIE, and Dr. Christopher Loomis, Memorial’s vice-president (research), will be participating in this ceremony.
Memorial University is part of the Atlantic Computational Excellence Network (ACEnet) which in turn is part of the Atlantic Canada Organization of Research Networks. Togther, ACEnet and ACORN-NL and CANARIE have been upgrading Canada's advanced computing network. CANARIE is based in Ottawa and facilitates the development and use of its network as well as the advanced services, products, applications and services that run on it.
