News Release

REF NO.: 76

SUBJECT: Memorial students living in library for 10 days

DATE: January 14, 2009

Media interviews can be arranged this week with two Memorial University students who will be living in the Queen Elizabeth II Library for 10 days beginning on Friday, Jan. 16.
Maggie Peyton and Megan Earle will be pitching a tent in the lobby of the QE II, camping in a small designated area, from Jan. 16-26, as part of the national fundraiser Live-in for Literacy.
The pair is hoping to raise at least $6,000 to help build nine libraries in India.
Memorial is just one of seven universities from across the country taking part in this year’s event.
Ms. Peyton and Ms. Earle will eat, sleep, study and relax all within the confines of a small area in the lobby of the library, only being allowed out for a five-minute break each hour.
Their entire movements will also be recorded live on a webcam 24 hours a day, to be viewed around the globe.
Media interviews and photo shoots can be scheduled during the fundraiser.
