The challenge: discuss your research in three minutes, using three slides.
Faculty members at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College will be trying to do just that during the First Annual Faculty Research Showcase: the SWGC Research Blitz. The blitz is a light-hearted competition in which normally “long-winded faculty” vie to give a clear and understandable talk on their research in exactly three minutes, with no more than three slides, says organizer Dr. Doug Forbes.
“These limits will be strictly enforced, using physical coercion – a hook, a trapdoor – if necessary,” he says jokingly. “Prizes to the top three contestants will be awarded by a panel of impartial – but corruptible – judges.”
This not-to-be-missed event will be held in the lecture theatre of the Library and Computing Building, LC301, on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m.
“We want to give the community, students and other faculty a chance to see the sort of varied and fascinating research being done at Grenfell College,” says Dr. Forbes, a professor of physics in Grenfell’s Division of Science. “And we want to have a bit of fun, of course – sort of like sliding down the banisters in the ivory tower.”
All are welcome to this free event. Coffee and cookies will be provided. For more information contact Doug Forbes, Physics, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, (709) 637-6295, dforbes@swgc.mun.ca.
