            The media are invited to attend a Safer Soil Community Forum on Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Lantern, 35 Barnes Road, St. John’s.
            Forum organizers will demonstrate how residents can effectively and easily reduce their exposure to lead in soil and garden produce, and find out the latest results of the study on Environmental Lead Exposure in St. John’s.
            Forum speakers include Dr. Trevor Bell, Department of Geography, Environmental Lead Exposure in St. John’s: an Update; Dr. David Allison, Medical Officer of Health, Eastern Health, Lead and Health: Potential Risks; Costa Kasimos, MUN Botanical Garden, Safe Gardening in High Soil Lead; Dr. Barbara Roebothan, MUN Community Health, Healthy Eating with Fresh Fruit and Vegetables; Caitlin Dwyer Huppert, Worcester Roots Project (Worcester, Massachusetts); Phytoremediation – Using Plants to Clean the Soil; Averi Hamilton, Toxic Soil Busters Coop (Worcester, Massachusetts) Landscaping Strategies for a Safe Soil.
