SUBJECT: PSA: Memorial University research centre offers public workshops

DATE: January 14, 2008

The public is invited to attend a series of workshops next week as part of a two-day celebration to mark the opening of the new home of the Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media and Place (MMaP) at Memorial University.
Free workshops will be held on both Tuesday, Jan. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 3-4 p.m. each day.
The public will learn more about ProTools, a computer program used for audio recording and editing. Spencer Crewe, digital audio studio co-ordinator with MMaP will lead the introductory workshop.
Meanwhile, the public will also learn more about Sibelius, a computer program used to notate music. Jeremy Strachan, a graduate student in ethnomusicology, will lead that discussion.
There is no charge for these workshops.
MMaP is located in the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre, Allandale Rd., in room 149 on the main floor, northeast corner, of the centre.
Parking for this event is available in the Arts and Culture Centre parking lot.
MMaP is affiliated with Memorial’s School of Music and the Department of Folklore. Its broad mandate includes supporting academic and community-based research focused on traditional music from this province.
