SUBJECT: Conclusion of Interprofessional Education Project

Media representatives are invited to attend a reception Thursday, June 26, starting at 4 p.m. in the medical school students’ lounge, HSC, recognizing participants in the three-year project for Interprofessional Education for Collaborative Patient-Centre Care.
The Centre for Collaborative Health Professional Education was the recipient of Health Canada funding to develop interprofessional education curriculum with activities that span the health professional education continuum. Memorial University’s project was developed as part of collaborations involving the Faculties of Medicine and Education, the Schools of Social Work, Nursing and Pharmacy, and Memorial’s Counselling Centre. During the three years, about 1,800 students were actively involved in various undergraduate interprofessional learning activities, and more than 80 faculty participated on various committees to develop and implement activities. The project also involved developing a Rural Mental Health Interprofessional Training Program delivered to professionals in six targeted communities.
Speakers at the reception will include project co-directors Dr. Vernon Curran and Dr. Dennis Sharpe, as well as Dr. Shelly Birnie-Lefkovitch, director of the School of Social Work, and representatives from Health Canada and Memorial’s Vice-President Academic Office.
