SUBJECT: PSA: Music, Media and Culture series continues at Memorial University

DATE: February 19, 2007

Memorial University welcomes former St. John’s resident and sociologist Dr. Paul Moore, an assistant professor at Ryerson University in Toronto, for its next segment of the Music, Media and Culture public lecture series.
Dr. Moore will deliver a special lecture on Thursday, Feb. 22, entitled St. John's Nickel Shows: Modern Amusements in a Parochial Setting.
The presentation gets underway at 7:30 p.m. in the Petro-Canada Hall in the School of Music. Dr. Moore’s work argues that mass culture is grounded in regional institutions.
His research for this project was completed on trips back to this province while he held a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) postdoctoral fellowship in cinema and media studies at the University of Chicago.
The lecture is sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in Ethnomusicology and is free and open to the public.
