SUBJECT: Memorial researchers partner with Fluvarium for afternoon of science and fun

DATE: March 1, 2007

A number of Memorial University graduate and undergraduate science students will jump on their sleds and toboggans on Sunday, March 4, 2007, for a unique event in St. John’s.
Sledding Science is an initiative of the Let's Talk Science Partnership Program, an educational outreach program run by Memorial students. It is being offered in partnership with The Fluvarium in St. John’s.
Volunteers from the university will present demonstrations and hands-on activities on winter science topics, including how animals survive the cold, friction and forces and exercise physiology. Youth between the ages of five and 12 will also have an opportunity to build and design their own mini-sled which they’ll test for prizes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sleds.
Sledding Science is a free event open to the general public. It runs from 1-3 p.m. at the Fluvarium. The program is funded by several groups at Memorial University.
