SUBJECT: Memorial group hosts public education symposium on blood disorders

Members of the general public are welcome to attend a general meeting and special forum being hosted by the Newfoundland and Labrador Blood Disorders Support Network on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, from 7-9 p.m.
The meeting will take place in the main auditorium of the Health Sciences Centre.
The network is a project of the Hematology and Hemostasis Research Group at Memorial University. Its main goal is to raise awareness about disorders of the blood and the immune system in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the impact these disorders have on patients, their families and the professionals and volunteers who work in this field.
The meeting will include special presentation by Dr. Stephanie Young, a primary health care pharmacist and assistant professor in Memorial’s School of Pharmacy. She will deliver a talk entitled Anti-Coagulation: Information on Warfarin.
A second presentation entitled Cancer and Thrombosis will be delivered by Dr. Mary-Frances Scully, an adult clinical hematologist/oncologist at Eastern Health and an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial.
