For the first time in the 35-year history of the Canadian Science Writers’ Association (CSWA), the organization will be holding its annual meeting and conference in Newfoundland and Labrador. Memorial University is hosting the event which will be held on St John’s campus from June 24-26, 2006. The university expects dozens of CSWA members from across the country to arrive to discuss matters related to the communication of science, technology, or medicine.
The packed program includes presentations from university faculty members such as earth scientists, Drs. Derek Wilton and Jeremy Hall, Fisheries Conservation Chair Dr. George Rose and Marine Institute executive director Glen Blackwood, as well as researchers from the National Research Council’s Institute for Ocean Technology. The proceedings also feature outings such as a trip to Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve and an evening in the harbour aboard the Nouvelle Orleans, where the CSWA will be presenting awards to the best science journalism from last year.
