Memorial University’s governing board, the Board of Regents, will be holding its next regular meeting in Corner Brook on Feb. 1-2, 2005. The board will meet at the Glynmill Inn. Comprised of 27 volunteers who are government-appointed, elected by the university’s alumni or ex officio by virtue of their senior administrative roles, the board meets at least once each year at the university’s Western Newfoundland campus.

On the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 1, Lorne Wheeler, the chair of the board, will host a dinner with the local community, also at the Glynmill Inn. Invited guests include mayors, provincial and federal cabinet ministers, and MHAs from the western region, members from the Corner Brook community, including chairs of the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade, the Humber Economic Development Board Trade, Western Health Care Corporation and the Western School District, as well as Memorial’s honorary graduates, former regents, corporate and individual donors of Memorial University in the region, along with members of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. At the dinner, Dr. Axel Meisen, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial, will present an overview of the university’s recent accomplishments and its plans for future endeavours.
