The committee held its first meeting on Nov. 18. The university community will receive regular updates throughout the search process.

The search will be supported by an external search consultant.  This decision reflects the imperative of ensuring a deep candidate pool wherein the candidates have the appropriate experience and qualifications for this important position.

Input from the university community is invited, and indeed, welcome.  Feedback on the role is particularly valuable in the strategic areas of research leadership, administrative experience, and engagement and relationship management. Commentary on desired candidate qualifications will also be considered, and the committee will seek input on priorities for the incoming vice-president (research).

Applications for the position will be invited from internal and external candidates, and the position will be broadly advertised nationally and internationally.  The last phase of the search will be open and candidates who are included in the final shortlist will be invited to participate in presentations to the university, meetings with stakeholders and will be expected to be available for in person visits to the St. John’s campus, the Marine Institute, Grenfell Campus and the Labrador Campus. The open nature of the process will be communicated in all advertising.

The committee aims to complete the search in the next six months. Details will continue to be shared with the university community for the duration of the search. Updates will be posted to this page. Feedback can be provided by emailing vprsearch@mun.ca.
