    1. What are the MUCEP eligibility requirements?

    Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a MUCEP position:

    • Be an undergraduate student;
    • Be registered in at lest 3 credit courses (1 credit course in spring semester);
    • Have at least a 60% cumulative average or a 60% average in the last 10 courses;
    • Agree to hold no more than 1 MUCEP position at 80 hours or 2 MUCEP positions at 40 hours each.

    2. When are MUCEP jobs advertised? What is the application deadline?

    MUCEP week occurs during the first full week of classes in each semester. Therefore, if classes begin on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, the MUCEP week will start the following Monday. MUCEP jobs are posted at 9:00 a.m. on the first day of MUCEP week and are advertised for the duration of the week. The deadline to apply is always noon on the Friday of MUCEP week.

3. What if I miss the noon deadline on Friday? Can I still submit my resume before 5:00p.m.?

Yes, we will accept your résumé; however, it will be stamped “late” and will be forwarded to the department where the MUCEP vacancy exists when time permits.

4. Where are MUCEP jobs advertised?

As of 9:00 a.m. on the Monday of MUCEP week, MUCEP positions are posted on our website at www.mun.ca/cdel. Please note that MUCEP positions are not available for viewing after the Friday noon deadline passes.

5. How do I submit my résumé?

Résumés must be submitted in person to the Centre for Career Development, 4th floor, University Centre, Room UC-4002.

6. Can I e-mail my résumé?

No, we currently do not accept résumés via e-mail. Résumés must be submitted in person to the Centre for Career Development, 4th floor, University Centre, Room UC-4002.

7. If I am applying for more than one job, do I need more than one résumé?

Yes, you must submit a separate résumé for each job that you wish to apply for. Be sure to indicate the job number and your student number on the top right hand corner of each résumé.

8. Do I need a cover letter?

A cover letter is optional.

9. Do I need to attach a MUCEP Agreement Form with every résumé? Do I need to complete one every semester?

A MUCEP Agreement Form is a form that you sign which indicates that you have met the eligibility requirements for MUCEP. You only need to sign one form per semester, even if you apply for more than one job. A MUCEP Agreement Form must be signed every semester when applying for MUCEP.

10. Who will contact me regarding an interview? How soon will I hear back regarding an interview?

Once MUCEP week is over, résumés are forwarded to the hiring departments. It depends on how quickly the hiring department reviews the résumés. Students are generally contacted by the hiring department within a week after the application deadline. If there is a particular position you are interested in, feel free to contact that department’s general office to inquire if MUCEP positions have been filled.

11. What if I missed MUCEP week, can I still apply?

Yes, we do have a number of reposted MUCEP positions each semester. Continue checking our MUCEP website for updated postings.

12. Can graduate students participate in MUCEP?

No. Graduate students cannot participate in the MUCEP program, as it is designed for undergraduate students only. The MUCEP rate of pay is not equivalent to the rate for graduate students in accordance with the University's Student Employment policy. Alternatively, GradSWEP, an equivalent program is available for graduate students. 13. How many MUCEP jobs can a student hold in one semester?

A student can work a maximum of 80 hours under MUCEP. This consists of one 80 hour position or two 40 hour positions

14. How many hours will I be required to work a week for my MUCEP job?

The number of hours required for you to work on a weekly basis through your placement is discretionary and will be decided upon by you and your employer. Generally, if you are working an 80 hour placement, you would work between 8-10 hours/week. If you are completing a 40 hour placement, it is sometimes less. Note however, that as a full-time student, you cannot exceed more than 19 hours per week.

15. I am on a work-term. Can I still work a MUCEP placement?

No. If you are working a full-time work-term placement you cannot participate in MUCEP, as you are already employed. [Back to top]

 

16. I am working in a MUCEP job in the Spring Semester and my supervisor told me that I can be re-hired in the Fall Semester. Do I have to re-apply for this job?

If you are working a MUCEP in the Spring Semester and your supervisor wants to re-hire you for the Fall Semester, you must re-apply. To reapply you must drop by the Centre for Career Development during MUCEP week, submit your résumé (with the job number and your student number written in the top right hand corner), and sign a MUCEP agreement form.

17. I am working in a MUCEP job in the Fall Semester and my supervisor told me that I can be re-hired in the Winter Semester. Do I have to re-apply for this job?

If you are working a MUCEP in the Fall Semester and your supervisor wants to re-hire your for the Winter Semester, you do not have to re-apply. Your supervisor will be notified in November by Career Development asking if they wish to re-hire their current student. If they do, they are instructed to complete the required paperwork and send it back to the Centre for Career Development. Although you are not required to submit a résumé, you will be required to sign a MUCEP Agreement Form.

18. I am working in a MUCEP job in the Winter Semester and my supervisor told me that I can be re-hired in the Spring Semester. Do I have to re-apply for this job?

If you are working a MUCEP in the Winter Semester and your supervisor wants to rehire you for the Spring Semester, you must re-apply. To re-apply you must drop by the Centre for Career Development during MUCEP week, submit your résumé (with the job number and your student number written in the top right hand corner), and sign a MUCEP agreement form.

19. What happens if I drop courses and I am no longer taking three courses but I have already started my MUCEP job? Can I continue working?

No. If you change to part-time status (i.e., less than three courses) you no longer meet the requirements of the program and will not be permitted to complete the placement.

20. How/when will I get paid?

When you first get hired, the administrative contact in that department will require that you complete a direct deposit form. On a bi-weekly basis, a cheque stub indicating the amount that was deposited into your bank account will be forwarded to the general office of the department in which you are working. Please check with the administrative contact in that department for cheque stubs.

21. Will I get a T4 for tax purposes?

Yes. T4’s will be issued by the end of February or early March for tax purposes. This will go directly to the department where your MUCEP took place. If you do not receive a T4, please check with Human Resources tel: 864-4615 or humanres at mun.ca.
