Cognition during Exposure to Cold

Project Title

Cognition during Exposure to Cold

Summary

This project investigated the effects of cold temperature on human cognitive performance by documenting the effects of cold exposure and steadily decreasing body temperatures on individuals’ abilities to process information and their perceived mental workload. It was hoped that this project would help bridge the knowledge gap between thermal physiology and cognitive/physical ergonomics. A set of occupational guidelines for cold exposure were also developed based on both physiological and cognitive/physical ergonomic responses to extreme thermal stress.
