REF NO.: 126
SUBJECT: Harris Centre releases population projections for Newfoundland and Labrador
DATE: Sept. 5
Note to editors:
Memorial University’s Harris Centre will release population projections for the Island of Newfoundland this week. The Labrador region projections were released last year and are available on the Harris Centre website.
The projections, part of the centre’s Population Project, provide a clear picture of the population changes that can be expected over the next 20 years. Most areas of the province can expect to see significant reductions in population and notable aging.
The Harris Centre and Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) will co-host a news conference to release and discuss the findings on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The event will take place at MNL headquarters, located at 460 Torbay Rd., St. John’s.
The news conference will be hosted by Tony Keats, mayor, Town of Dover, and vice-president, MNL, and will feature a question and answer panel with Dr. Rob Greenwood, executive director, public engagement and the Harris Centre, Memorial University; Dr. Keith Storey, Population Project lead; and Dr. Alvin Simms and Jamie Ward, both of the Harris Centre’s Regional Analytics Laboratory, the authors of the report.
Media representatives are invited to attend.
