Members of the Department of History at Memorial University specialize in modern United States (U.S.) history, maritime history and Newfoundland/United States relations.

Microfilmed collections from the United States National Archives, Congressional Record, and United States Depository Collection, together with various materials in the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Maritime History Archive, permit the department to supervise master's (M.A.) work in selected aspects of U.S. history.
