Professor Jerry Bannister to Give Keynote

Professor Jerry Bannister will deliver a keynot address titled, "After the 'History Wars': Canadian History in the Post-Harper Era," on April 8th, 3-4, Arts 1043. This keynote explores trends in Canadian history in the post-Harper era.  It examines the ongoing debate over national versus transnational perspectives in the context of recent developments, particularly the emergence of "settler-colonialism" frameworks.  It argues that we need to make a greater distinction between national and nationalist history.

Jerry Bannister has taught in the History Department at Dalhousie University since 2003, and is currently the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program.   He co-edited (with Liam Riordan) The Loyal Atlantic: Remaking the British Atlantic in the Revolutionary Era (UTP, 2012).  He is a former Chair of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Historical Review.
