The Department of HIstory invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2015, subject to budgetary approval, in the field of Military History or War and Society, specialization open.  A completed earned doctorate (or recognized terminal qualification in the discipline) is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position.  (If a successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.  If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the requirements of the degree).  The person appointed will be expected to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including the supervision of honours and graduate students.  Letters of application should be sent to the Head of the department, accompanied by a current curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier, and three letters of reference.  Applications should include: 1) a statement of teaching interests; 2) a statement outling ongoing or proposed research programme; and 3) a sample of scholarly writing.  Applications should be directed to Prof. Terry Bishop Stirling, Head, Department of History, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL, Canada, A1C 5S7; Fax: (709) 864-2164; e-mail: tstirlin@mun.ca.  Deadline for applications is November 7, 2014.
