The Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2015, subject to budgetary approval, in the field of Aboriginal History.  Rsearch and teaching interests in all thematic and geographic areas of the field will be considered.  We are particularly encouraging applications from candidates whose interests address broad global themes in Aboriginal History.  Our department has established expertise in social, cultural, environmental, military and maritime history, with an emphasis on Newfoundland, Canada and the North Atlantic.  This appointment is part of a University-wide initiative to develop interdisciplinary Aboriginal studies and to make our University more welcoming to Aboriginal students.  The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to graduate supervision in the MA and PHD programs in the Department of History.  Applicants are expected to hold a PhD degree in a relevant field by the time of appointment.  Clear evidence of teaching and research excellence is required, and candidates should included a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of current and future research interests, teaching dossier, a writing sample, and three letters of reference.  Applications should be directed to Prof. Terry Bishop Stirling, Head, Department of History, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL, Canada, A1C 5S7; Fax (709) 864-2164; e-mail: tstirlin@mun.ca.  Deadline for applications is November 7, 2014.
