History MA Student Wins Aboriginal Scholarship

Stefanie Comeau has won a Terra Nova Aboriginal Masters Scholarship, one of two scholarships awarded to Aboriginal students valued at $7500 each.  The scholarship will support work on her Masters research paper. Stefanie will be researching Acadian history from 1604 to 1755 to show how the Acadian culture was distinct from other Europeans. What little work has been done on Acadian historyhas been centred around the Deportation  The Acadians have often been made out to be a simple people and passive victims who faced tragedy in 1755 . Often, it is argued that the event is what caused the shared identity. Stefanie hopes to show that the Acadian identity was well established before 1755.
