"Ecologies of practice in the co-creation of climate risk management"

Research, governance and humanitarian institutions often use transdisciplinary approaches to manage climate risk. They try to combine meteorological science, local weather observations and institutional routines into knowledge people can act on. This kind of co-creation works well when everyone shares the same idea of what a climate risk is. It gets harder when groups bring different, sometimes incompatible, meanings for terms like anticipation, risk, climate and management.

Paco will draw on his observation of an international climate risk management project in Madagascar. The project links research centres in Europe, humanitarian hubs in African capitals and at-risk rural communities. He will look at how different meanings of climate risk management get negotiated in that space, and how practices are enacted or cancelled as a result.

When: Friday, October 30, 2026. 1:00 – 2:00 pm.

Where: Arts 2071 (A2071)
