Title of Project:

Understanding Public Attitudes, Values, and Trust in Agencies for Wildlife Management in New Brunswick

Research Project Description:

In recent years, there has been an increase in illegal All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) use on beaches in New Brunswick. ATV riding on beaches has been known to disturb wildlife, including the endangered shore bird the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus), as well as increase erosion of important coastal ecosystems. There has been substantial amount of ecological research on the Piping Plover but there is little to be said about the human-wildlife interactions. Using a human dimensions of wildlife approach, my research aims to understand the levels of acceptance for management options and public trust in agencies which can hopefully provide representative suggestions and/or concerns to decision makers. I would also like to investigate the impacts of ATVs on local dune systems and potentially make connections to Limits of Acceptable Change.

Research Interests:

Human-Dimensions of Wildlife
Natural Resource Management
Public Involvement in decision making
Conservation Biology
Social Psychology
