Minor

Marketable Skills for Real-World Success.

A minor in economics is a valuable complement to degrees in commerce and in the sciences. For commerce students, our courses provide deeper insights into data analytics, firm behaviour, global markets, and policy evaluation—skills that are essential for careers in finance, consulting, and strategic decision-making. Science students benefit from applying quantitative tools like optimization, regression, and game theory to real-world economic problems, gaining practical experience in data analysis, modelling, and causal inference. This application-focused training broadens the relevance of your core skills.

An economics minor also strengthens degrees across the humanities and social sciences. Students in geography may find particular value in our courses on environmental and natural resource economics as well as economic planning and development. Students in political science can benefit from coursework on health economics, labour markets, taxation, and public expenditures, which are directly relevant for careers in politics and government administration.

Across all disciplines, a minor in economics fosters strong quantitative reasoning skills that are increasingly sought after in the labour market, making graduates more competitive for both employment and further academic study. Consult our course list to find offerings that are right for you.

How to Apply

You may declare economics as your minor at any time. Simply fill out a Declaration/Change of Academic Program form to make your choice official.

Declaring early helps ensure course selection aligns with program requirements, improves access to courses reserved for economics students, and reduces the risk of delayed graduation.
