Exam Information for Online Courses
This information applies to invigilated tests and exams in online courses only. For non-invigilated or on-campus exams, check your course syllabus or contact your instructor.
Exam Location
Your exam site is based on the Online Learning (OL) address in Memorial Self Service. Please ensure it is accurate to avoid delays or incorrect locations for exam arrangements.
Update Your OL Address
- Log in to Memorial Self Service.
- Go to Personal Information > Update Addresses and Phones.
- To update your address, click Current under Online Learning (OL) Address.
- If no OL address is displayed, select Online Learning (OL) Address from the Type of Address to Insert dropdown menu and click Submit to enter your address.
Exam Sites
- St. John’s, Marine Institute or Grenfell Campus: Applies if you live within 80 km of campus, based on your OL address, or if you are enrolled in a course with on-campus sections from one of these campuses.
- Newfoundland and Labrador: Some courses allow online proctoring (OP) via ProctorU for students taking online courses only and living within Newfoundland and Labrador. This is determined on a course-by-course basis. To request OP, please complete the Examination Supervisor Form. If you prefer not to use OP or your course does not offer it, you can write your exam at a site established based on your OL address. Every effort is made to arrange exams in your area, but you may need to travel to another site within a reasonable distance, per CITL's guidelines.
- Outside Newfoundland and Labrador: Please complete the Examination Supervisor Form, which enables you to agree to use OP if offered for your course, select an established exam site from a list, or propose an exam supervisor if a site is not available in your region.

Change of Exam Site
Need to write a test or exam at a different site? Complete the Change of Exam Site Form at least 14 days before your exam to apply to use an alternate site. Request approval is not automatic, and CITL reserves the right to refuse requests for exam site changes.
- $50 fee to change your exam site for each scheduled exam.

For more information about exam regulations, please consult the current University Academic Calendar or contact the CITL Support Centre.
Deferring an Exam
You can request a deferred exam for illness, bereavement or other approved reasons by applying with supporting documents.
Request approval is not automatic and is at the discretion of the course instructor or academic unit head. For term tests or midterms, instructors may opt to prorate grades or require the student to write a comprehensive final exam in place of a deferred exam.
