In early December members of the department collected the food and money needed to fill a hamper for the Campus Food Bank Christmas hamper drive.  Our department members are very generous when it comes to donating to the food bank and that group appreciates our efforts.

The Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) project team (multi-department) hosted a chemical safety module pilot testing early in the month. Lab personnel were trained in the new ordering system being developed for ordering lab supplies. At this time only test ordering was done, as the system will not be ready for regular use until into 2014.  Not all were able to attend training and the opportunity for ongoing testing was made available by the HSMS team.

Our student society collected orders for Biochemistry clothing items as well as mugs earlier the fall.  These items arrived in December and wearers were proud to show off their new duds!

A number of events were held pre-Christmas, getting all in the festive spirit. There was a Carol Sing hosted by the General Office.  Music was provided by Elaine Dodge of the Bertolo lab, using a mini keyboard spontaneously formed from two ipads that happened to be in the room at the time.   It was noted that her musical talents surely surpassed our singing talents!  We also had a Secret Santa gift exchange, a holiday potluck lunch, and a luncheon out at Bally Haly.  Events were enjoyed by all in attendance.
