(Primary/Elementary)'14, B.Sp.Ed.'18, M.Ed.'20

Great institutions are shaped by people who care deeply about how decisions are made—and who those decisions serve. I am seeking election to the Board of Regents because I am ready to contribute directly to the governance of an institution that has shaped my education, leadership, and service across this province.

I am currently an Instructional Resource Teacher with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, working at the centre of inclusive education—supporting literacy, intervention, and school-wide decision-making. Every day, I collaborate with educators, families, and support teams to translate complex student needs into practical, equitable action.

My commitment to service extends well beyond my professional role. I am a former Miss Newfoundland and Labrador, an experience that strengthened my voice in public advocacy and community engagement across the province. Today, I serve on the Board of Directors for two provincial leadership organizations—one focused on youth leadership and one on women’s leadership—and I actively support organizations such as Young Adult Cancer Canada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

My vision for Memorial is clear: a university that is accessible, accountable, and deeply connected to the province it serves. Strong governance requires leaders who can bridge policy and lived experience, challenge assumptions, and keep student success at the centre of every decision.

I bring a collaborative, grounded, and community-minded perspective—rooted in education, leadership and service, and I am ready to contribute to Memorial's next chapter.

BBA'25

I attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador from 2020 to 2025, where I completed my Bachelor of Business Administration.

My time at MUN was not limited to academics. I spent three years living in residence, surrounded by people from different backgrounds, which shaped my understanding of community on campus. At the same time, I worked in the university residence and gained a behind-the-scenes view of how the university operates day-to-day.

To be more involved, I stepped further into student life. I joined the university’s students' union as a MUCEP student, attended student-focused initiatives, and later served as the Business Department Student Representative on the Board of Directors. In that role, I was selected to serve on the presidential search committee, contributing to a process that directly shapes the university’s leadership and long-term direction. These experiences showed me how decisions are made and what responsible representation looks like.

Memorial is not perfect, but it is a place that all people, including me, genuinely care about. I’ve seen what works in it and what doesn’t. It’s important to find a balance that allows the university to operate ethically towards its students while remaining financially responsible. I also care about what happens after students leave, and how the transition into alumni life can be stronger and more connected. I’m running to bring a clear, grounded perspective to the Memorial University Board of Regents and contribute to the decisions that strengthen the University for the long term.

M.A.Sc.'25

I graduated from Memorial University in 2025 with a Master’s degree in Safety and Risk Engineering. In my final semester, I served as Executive Director of Communications for the Graduate Students’ Union (GSU), where I worked closely with student leaders and the School of Graduate Studies to strengthen communication, represent graduate student interests, and contribute to effective collaboration across the University.

I am seeking election to the Board of Regents because I want to continue serving Memorial in a way that supports its long-term direction and sustainability. I understand the importance of thoughtful oversight, sound judgment, and accountability in shaping decisions that affect the university’s future, and I am committed to contributing meaningfully in that regard.

My vision is to support a university that is financially responsible, forward-thinking, and responsive to the needs of its community. I believe strong governance requires balancing priorities, asking the right questions, and making decisions that reflect both present realities and future impact.

Beyond my role in the GSU, I have consistently held leadership positions since my undergraduate years, across both academic and extracurricular organizations. These experiences have strengthened my initiative, adaptability, and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

I bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to acting with integrity. If elected, I will contribute actively, remain well-informed, and approach every responsibility with the diligence and accountability required to support Memorial’s growth and success.

PhD'25

I am a graduate of the PhD in Education program at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador who has spent many years advancing workforce development and education in our province and internationally. In my current role as Director of Employment Services, as well as in previous roles, I have developed practical experience in building partnerships and making strategic decisions. I am a firm believer that alumni should be engaged in shaping the future of our university. As a member of the Board of Regents, I will contribute to the governance of the university that we are all proud of as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. My goal is to help ensure that Memorial continues to be sustainable and responsive to emerging challenges through strong governance and accountability.

BA'22

As a proud MUN alumna, I am seeking to serve on the Board of Regents to contribute to a university that is equitable, accountable, and responsive to the diverse communities it serves. Through roles spanning student support and communications during my time here, I developed a strong understanding of both student experience and the institutional systems that shape it.

Over the past four years, I have worked in the non-profit sector at YWCA St. John's in employment services, supporting women, gender-diverse individuals, youth, and newcomers navigating systemic barriers. My work is grounded in trauma-informed, feminist, and equity-based approaches, and includes direct service delivery, facilitation, and employer engagement. This has strengthened my ability to build trust, engage stakeholders, and translate lived experiences into meaningful action.

I bring governance and policy experience through my advisory role with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, where I have collaborated with public officials to inform policy development, contributing presentations and recommendations while acting as a liaison between communities and decision-makers.

In my community advisory role at Anti-Racism Coalition of NL, I advise on anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks, centering immigrant, racialized, and Indigenous perspectives to strengthen inclusion and accountability, and supporting dialogue and collaboration to advance systemic change.

I aim to contribute to inclusive, accountable governance by embedding Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism into decision-making. Informed by my experience navigating funding systems, I will advocate for greater financial transparency and accountability within the university and support evidence-informed decisions that strengthen access, student success, and long-term community impact.

Brian Amadi is a cultural leader and Executive Director of The Art of Being Black (TABB), a Newfoundland and Labrador organization building infrastructure, opportunity, and visibility for underrepresented creatives across the province. Under his leadership, TABB has been growing rapidly and is developing the Centre for Black Arts. The Centre is a permanent facility supporting creative entrepreneurship, community engagement, and cultural production in the province.

In 2025, Brian co-founded and organized Rebels at the Walls, a street art festival created to support independent public artists. This demography of artist is an underrepresented sector within the provincial arts ecosystem. He led the fundraising campaign that established the festival, generated paid employment for 13 public artists, entertainers, and hosted 25 vendors through its marketplace.

Across eight years of work, Brian has built a track record in strategic planning, partnership development, and program design, working with government agencies, corporate partners, and community organizations to secure funding, deliver sustainable programs, and grow organizations.

A Memorial University alumnus, Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Political Science and Law and Society, along with certificates in Criminology and Public Policy, graduating with distinction.

Brian brings to the Board of Regents a perspective grounded in both governance experience and lived understanding of Memorial's role as a place where students discover capacities they did not know they had. He is committed to long-term institutional infrastructure, fiscal stewardship, and equitable access to opportunity for the communities Memorial serves.

M.Sc.'24

I am a Senior Software Developer based in St. John’s, NL. At Angler Solutions, I help build MESO—an energy-systems optimisation platform that turns modelling, geospatial analysis and cloud infrastructure into practical decision tools.

I’m seeking election as an alumni representative on Memorial’s Board of Regents because I want to help strengthen Memorial’s future as a university for the province, the world and our collective future. My intent is to represent alumni perspectives with rigour, fairness and a strong focus on outcomes.

My vision is aligned with Transforming Our Horizons: proactive programmes, inspired learning, dynamic research, commitment to communities, and promotion of Memorial’s achievements. In practice, that means supporting resilient, secure and cost-aware digital infrastructure; learner centred innovation that improves the student experience across in-person and online learning; and partnerships that translate Memorial research into opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador. Across all decisions, I will keep sustainability and climate action, Indigenization and reconciliation, and equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism at the centre.

I bring hands-on experience in cybersecurity-aware cloud delivery (Amazon Web Services), risk and cost trade-offs, technical governance and clear stakeholder communication. B.Comm.(Co-op.)'78

Leadership Roles and Board Experience

I had the privilege of serving two terms on the board, beginning in 2011 as Chair of Audit and Risk. In 2014, I took on the role of Chair of Finance and Administration. During these years, there was a significant amount of work to be accomplished, and it became clear that even more could be done. This led me to pledge that, upon retirement, I would seek to return to the board and continue contributing.

Professional Experience and Volunteer Service

With nearly forty years as a practicing Chartered Accountant and extensive experience in national and provincial volunteer financial oversight positions, I would be honoured to fulfil my earlier pledge and resume a role on the board.

Personal Connection and Giving Back

My previous positions on the board aligned with my accounting designation and provided an opportunity to give back to Memorial. The institution served as an invaluable steppingstone for both my children and me, and my service was a way to express my gratitude.

BA'25

I believe universities are strongest when student voices are not just heard but embedded in decision-making. As an international student from Ecuador, I came to Memorial University navigating uncertainty but quickly discovered the transformative power of student support systems and community. Having risen through the system myself, I bring a perspective grounded in both lived experience and a deep respect for the faculty and staff who shape the student experience alongside it.

I seek to serve on the Board of Regents to champion a vision of Memorial as a student-centred, globally engaged institution where governance decisions actively reflect the lived realities of its community. I am committed to advancing strategic priorities that strengthen accessibility, foster inclusive environments, and enhance the holistic student experience, ensuring academic success is supported by wellbeing, connection, and opportunity.

My professional background in residence life has prepared me to contribute meaningfully to this work. Through progressive leadership roles, from student positions such as Resident Assistant to Residence Life Coordinator at a different institution (Acadia University). I have led diverse teams, navigated complex student situations, implemented policy, and designed programs that directly impact student success. This journey has given me a comprehensive understanding of how institutional systems, staff expertise, and student needs intersect.

I bring a combination of lived experience, strategic thinking, and frontline leadership that allows me to translate student needs into actionable governance priorities. I am ready to contribute thoughtful, informed perspectives that help Memorial continue to evolve as an inclusive, responsive, and forward-looking university.

B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)'81

As we know, Memorial University faces challenges as it adapts to today’s fiscal realities, while still needing to position itself for the future.

Memorial can meet both of these difficult challenges, thereby continue to meet the needs of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, today and tomorrow.  I want to help by bringing the connection that I have had with the University and in Canada’s broader business community to Memorial’s Board of Regents.

I am a MUN B.Comm (’81) and Queen’s MBA (’82) graduate.  I have actively engaged with MUN for the past 15 years as a previous chair of the MUN GTA alumni advisory board and a member of the former MUN president’s advisory council.  I was honoured to be the recipient of the 2025 J.D. Eaton Award.

I am a board member of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (chair of the Venue Committee, member of the Nominating and Governance Committees), and a member of the board of our golf club, (chair of its Buildings Committee).  I have carried out other volunteer activities over the years.

I have over 30 years’ experience in real estate investment and management, in both entrepreneurial and institutional environments, with stints in corporate banking and the office equipment sectors prior to that. I have broad finance, legal, tax, corporate, governance and HR skills.

I would bring all of this, plus a deep commitment to Memorial, to the Board of Regents.

BA'12, MA'14

I have passion for Memorial University and its place in Newfoundland and Labrador. As such, I am seeking the opportunity to sit on the Board of Regents; to contribute to the university by having a genuine seat at the table. I will strive to safeguard Memorial’s reputation by working to balance its interests with its priorities and ensure that a pragmatic and responsible approach is applied in the continuation of the province’s only university.

Originally from Chapel's Cove, I lived and studied in other provinces and now live and work in downtown St. John’s. I believe the time is right to get more involved with the university that was my home for several years.

I am goal oriented, see commitments through, and will bring a strong work ethic to a position on the Board. My academic achievements highlight my willingness to go above and beyond by not only meeting goals but exceeding them — and now as a federal public servant, I am dedicated to confidentiality and advocating for others.

My career path has provided me with a wealth of experience and demonstrates my resiliency and adaptability, going from an academic career with research and publications pertaining to Canadian governance, identity, and anti-racism, into freelance work for an Indigenous consultancy group, and presently working in intellectual property for the federal government. The numerous skills I have acquired throughout my higher education and diverse career path can be readily applied to the Board and I endeavour to do so.

B.Comm.(Co-op.)'02, MER'11

As a proud graduate of Memorial University, I have maintained a deep and lifelong commitment to the institution. As the first member of my immediate family to graduate from university, Memorial played a critical role in my life, and I remain deeply grateful for the opportunities it provided. That experience instilled in me a strong belief in the power of accessible, high-quality post-secondary education.

I have spent my career in senior leadership roles focused on strategy, people, and organizational leadership. My work has centred on supporting organizations, strengthening people and culture, and making thoughtful, long-term decisions. I have complemented this experience with formal governance education through the Institute of Corporate Directors, Director Education Program (ICD.D), along with practical board experience serving on several community organizations.

My interest in serving on the Board of Regents reflects a genuine desire to give back to Memorial and to contribute experienced, steady leadership at an important time for the University. I am motivated to contribute practical experience, sound judgment, and a strong sense of responsibility to help ensure the University’s long-term sustainability and success for generations to come.

BA'91

I am a proud graduate of Memorial University in 1991 and a passionate supporter of Memorial’s academic vision and place within our province.

During my time as an employee in international student recruitment, as well as undertaking contractual work on their behalf thereafter while residing overseas, I have been committed to advancing Memorial’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.

My specific intent in seeking a alumni position on the Board of Regents is to contribute these lived experiences and perspectives, along with my strategic insights, and to offer a strong voice for alumni, students, and the broader community as the institution enters a critical phase of restructuring and renewed growth.

My vision aligns with Memorial’s strategic commitments to our province and people: fostering innovation and rationalization in academic programming, strengthening well defined and relevant research capacity, and ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all learners.

I believe the University must continue to be a driver of economic, cultural, and social growth in Newfoundland and Labrador, all while also expanding its global reach. This requires thoughtful governance, transparent decision-making, and a focus on the longterm sustainability of the institution.

Professionally, I bring over 35 years of experience in business and community activity and relations, with a track record in strategic planning, project management, fiscal oversight, and stakeholder engagement. I feel this coupled with my distinct interest in shaping Memorial’s future that I would be a reasonable fit for an alumni position on the Board of Regents.

MA'24

I am a proud alumnus of Memorial University with a master’s degree in political science and a deep appreciation for the role Memorial plays in shaping Newfoundland and Labrador and communities beyond the province. I am putting my name forward for election to the Board of Regents because I believe alumni have an important responsibility to help protect, strengthen, and advance the university that shaped us.

My vision is to support a Memorial that remains academically strong, financially responsible, inclusive, and closely connected to the needs of students, communities, and the province. Memorial’s strategic commitments to proactive programs, inspired learning, dynamic research, community engagement, and institutional pride require thoughtful governance, careful stewardship, and a willingness to listen to diverse voices.

I bring experience in policy research, governance, public service, stakeholder engagement, and frontline community support. My professional background has involved working with vulnerable populations, supporting youth and families, contributing to research and policy work, and navigating complex service systems with care, judgment, and accountability. These experiences have strengthened my ability to ask practical questions, consider different perspectives, and make decisions that balance people, purpose, and long-term impact.

If elected, I will bring integrity, humility, preparation, and a strong commitment to Memorial’s future. I will work to ensure that alumni perspectives are meaningfully represented while supporting decisions that advance student success, community impact, and Memorial’s continued contribution to Newfoundland and Labrador.

BA'14, B.Ed.(Primary/Elementary)'15

I am a proud Memorial alumni, excited at the opportunity to assist with the meaningful progress of our university. I’ve earned two degrees from Memorial; a Bachelor of Arts (2014) and a Bachelor of Education (2015). I hold a Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University (2020), and was called to the Bar in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2021.

During my time as a MUN student I served as President of my Education cohort and as a student representative on the Faculty’s Admissions and Standing Committee. My experiences at Memorial shaped who I am today – a proud public servant who has worked as both a teacher and a lawyer in our province. I am also a mother, devoted community member, and lifelong volunteer. I have volunteered with local breakfast programs, and spent many years as a Girl Guide leader and basketball coach.

During law school I volunteered with the Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service and the Access to Justice clinic. My legal practice gives me unique insight into the principles of good governance, an intimate understanding of the duties required of a Regent, and the ability to make difficult decisions in the best interests of those I represent – in this case, the Memorial University community.

It is my intention to apply my experiences to ensure that our province’s university remains operationally sustainable by responsibly embracing modern initiatives while simultaneously preserving the essential characteristics of the institution and ensuring that voices from all regions and cohorts of the province are engaged and heard.

BSW'84

My connection to Memorial University runs deep. As a graduate of Memorial's School of Social Work, 1984, the values of public service, equity, and professionalism instilled there have shaped every stage of my career from leading the establishment of Drug Treatment Courts across Canada to contributing to the Ukraine Canada Project.

For nearly 25 years I have worked at the intersection of governance, professional regulation, and public protection. I spent 18 years leading quality assurance at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Canada's largest medical regulator, and served as the first Deputy Registrar of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority. I now lead Ratchill Consulting, providing regulatory and governance advisory services to health professional regulators and other clients across Canada.

I understand what it means for an institution to be accountable to the public it serves. I bring hands-on experience in governance design, risk oversight, strategic planning, policy development, and stakeholder engagement which are precisely the competencies that support effective board work. I also bring an outside perspective: I have observed Memorial from a distance, and as a graduate of University of Toronto (MSW’90), I am especially proud of what this University means to Newfoundland and Labrador and to Canadians who have benefited from its graduates.

As a Regent, I would contribute substantive governance expertise, a commitment to evidence-informed decision-making, and a deep respect for Memorial's role as a civic institution. I am ready to serve.

M.Eng.'17

Memorial University changed the trajectory of my life, and I am seeking this opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape who I am today.

As an immigrant to Canada, Newfoundland was my first home, and Memorial became the foundation of my academic, professional, and personal growth. During my time at Memorial, I served as Executive Director of External Affairs for the Graduate Students’ Union (2015–2017), where I worked closely with university leadership on governance, budgeting, student advocacy, fundraising, and long-term planning initiatives. I also served as a Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, and lab instructor.

Since graduating, I have built a career leading complex infrastructure and energy projects across Canada, the United States, and the Middle East. My work has supported housing, hospitals, airports, mining and critical infrastructure projects across Northern Canada, including Indigenous communities in Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. I later worked on major real estate and infrastructure developments in Dubai and Riyadh and now contribute to next-generation engineering and power infrastructure initiatives supporting Tesla’s future growth in Silicon Valley.

I want to bring global perspective, governance experience, financial discipline, and a deep commitment to Memorial’s long-term future. I believe Memorial should continue producing graduates capable of competing and leading on the world stage—and I want to help strengthen that path for future students.

M.A.Sc.'21

I am a Project Manager specializing in machine safety and risk engineering, and a proud graduate of Memorial University. During my time at Memorial, I served in the Graduate Students’ Union as Executive Director of Campus Life, where I led initiatives that enhanced student engagement, wellbeing, and campus-wide programming across diverse graduate communities.

I am seeking election to the Board of Regents to contribute a practical, forward-thinking perspective shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience within the University. Memorial played a defining role in my development, and I am committed to supporting its continued growth, relevance, and long-term sustainability.

My vision is to strengthen the University’s strategic priorities by advancing student success, fostering innovation, and deepening the connection between academic learning and industry readiness. In an increasingly complex and competitive environment, I believe Memorial must continue to evolve while staying grounded in its mission of accessible, high-quality education.

I bring a disciplined, systems-oriented approach to governance, grounded in risk management, accountability, and strategic decision-making. I am committed to contributing thoughtfully and responsibly to ensure the University remains resilient, impactful, and positioned for future success.

B.Comm.(Co-op.)'10

I care deeply about the role Memorial plays in shaping the future of Newfoundland and Labrador. Throughout my career, I have worked in complex, people-focused environments where strong leadership, sound decision-making, and accountability matters. As Vice-President of People & Culture within a public sector organization, I have led work in workforce strategy, organizational change, and culture, while also supporting executive and Board level discussions through my role as ex-officio member of the Governance and Human Resources Committee.

My vision for Memorial is grounded in balance, ensuring the University remains financially sustainable and well-governed, while continuing to be a place where people can learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging. I believe Memorial’s strength comes from its people, and that its long-term success depends on creating an environment that supports students, faculty, and staff to thrive.

I bring experience in strategic planning, labour relations, and leading through change, along with a strong commitment to inclusion and accessibility. Earlier in my career, I supported national Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives across a workforce of more than 120,000 employees, shaping my belief in the importance of diverse perspectives in decision making.

I would bring a thoughtful, practical, and people-centred lens to the Board, with a focus on supporting Memorial’s continued impact and relevance in our province and beyond.

CPA, B.Comm.(Co-op.)'14

Newfoundland has been my home for close to two decades. I arrived as an international student and fell in love with Memorial University, which played a key role in forging my values and shaping my professional journey. I am motivated to give back to my alma mater by serving on the Board of Regents and supporting Memorial’s continued success.

I have worked in public practice as a CPA for more than a decade and have served a wide range of clients, from local businesses to technology driven startups and from Public listed entities to Public sector entities including post-secondary institutions. This experience provided me with deep exposure to several financial reporting frameworks, assurance, risk management and governance structures.

In my current role at NL Hydro, I support the executive leadership and the Board through transparent reporting. This has further strengthened my understanding of the workings of a complex public sector entity. In addition, I currently serve on the Board of Examiners of CPA Canada, where I contribute to the development of the Common Final Examination and provide guidance on the passing profile.

As a Board of Regent, I will dedicate myself to support Memorial’s strategic commitments to learning, community, inclusivity, and fiscal responsibility. I bring a strong financial and strategic dimension along with a collaborative approach to governance. I am committed to advancing inclusive leadership and ensure this institution continues to be a source of pride for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

MTM'24

I am seeking nomination to contribute to Memorial’s Board of Regents in a practical, accountable, and experience-driven way. I approach work from a systems and quality lens and aim to bring that perspective to board actions.

My background is in healthcare, where I spent over a decade in head and neck oncology rehabilitation. I have extensive regulatory governance experience, including over 12 years of Health Regulatory College committee work in Standards of Practice, Finance, and Infection Prevention and Control, and as Complaints Director, learning to balancing risk, accountability, and fair decision-making.

I have stayed engaged with post-secondary education as an alumni through NAIT program committees. I was part of the Dental Technology Program Advisory Committee (PAC) from 2010–2016, including three years as Chair, and have continued on with the Bachelor of Technology PAC since 2017. I am an active member of the NAIT Alumni Advisory Committee since 2018.

Currently, I am the Manager of Operations and Quality for the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation, where I focus on quality systems, operations, and accreditation.

Memorial provided me with such a rich experience and I am drawn to give back. Although I live and work in Alberta, I completed my Master of Technology Management virtually through Memorial, where I was a Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies and nominated for the Chancellor’s Graduate Award and the Fry Family Foundation Graduate Leadership Award (2024).

My goal is to support Memorial’s strategic commitments through practical, quality-driven governance that leads to meaningful impact.

B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)'86

I seek to help advance the University’s mission as a public institution that serves students, strengthens communities, and contributes to Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond.

As a Memorial University graduate and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), I bring a disciplined approach to governance, financial oversight, and risk informed decision-making—grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparent communication with diverse stakeholders.

I owned and led DMK Chartered Professional Accountants for 31 years and later served as a partner at the national accounting firm MNP LLP for five years—experience that deepened my expertise in financial leadership, governance, and advising organizations through complex decisions.

My intent is to support a Board that focuses on clear priorities and measurable outcomes: an exceptional and accessible student experience; research and innovation that deliver social, cultural, and economic impact; meaningful progress on Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion; and responsible stewardship of people, infrastructure, and finances. I believe Memorial University can strengthen trust and performance through strong oversight, risk management, and sustained engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni, governments, and community partners.

I would bring practical governance experience from serving on boards including the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association, Lakecrest School, and the Better Business Bureau. These roles have strengthened my ability to work collegially, steward resources responsibly, and balance competing priorities while keeping the public interest at the centre. I am comfortable reviewing budgets and financial statements, asking constructive questions, and using performance indicators to support clear decisions. Above all, I will contribute a collaborative, student-centred mindset and deep respect for Memorial’s people and purpose—helping the University deliver on its strategic commitments with integrity, accountability and ambition.

BA'99, B.Sc.'99

I am seeking election to the Board of Regents to help ensure Memorial University remains accountable, accessible, and focused on delivering real value to students and the communities it serves.

As a business owner and long-time volunteer, I bring experience in governance, financial oversight, and strategic planning. I have served on boards focused on mental health, autism, and healthcare, and have worked extensively with organizations navigating limited resources, competing priorities, and the need for accountability. My professional work in branding and communications has also given me insight into how institutions build trust and engage meaningfully with the public.

My intent is to help ensure Memorial remains accessible, relevant, and responsive to the needs of students, faculty, and the broader community. I believe the university’s strategic commitments must be grounded in transparency, fiscal responsibility, and long-term sustainability, while maintaining a strong focus on student success and well-being.

Memorial plays a critical role in the social and economic future of Newfoundland and Labrador. I will advocate for decisions that strengthen academic excellence, support innovation, and reinforce the university’s public mission. This includes embracing diverse pathways for students, strengthening community partnerships, and ensuring governance decisions are clear, evidence-informed, and accountable.

I offer a practical, collaborative approach, grounded in real-world experience and a strong commitment to public service.

Born and raised in St. John’s, I am a proud Memorial alumnus with a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science/History, 2000) and a Master of Public Administration (Management) from Dalhousie University (2021).

In 2002, I joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and served a distinguished 24-year career. My senior command roles included Task Force Commander for Operation SOPRANO, a United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (for which I received the United Nations Commander’s Commendation), and Commanding Officer of Garrison St. John’s. I have led complex strategic planning and logistical operations across three operational deployments: Afghanistan (2008–09), Mali (2013), and South Sudan (2022–23).

As I retire from the CAF in 2026, I am eager to continue serving Newfoundland and Labrador. My vision for the Board of Regents is to advance Memorial’s strategic commitments in Transforming Our Horizons — particularly Commitment to Communities, Proactive Programs, and Inspired Learning — by strengthening ties between the University and the province’s uniformed service members, veterans, and their families, while supporting fiscal responsibility, innovation, and student success.

I bring proven strategic planning expertise, crisis leadership, governance experience, and a deep personal commitment to public service. I currently serve as Run Director for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Run for the Cure in St. John’s. I look forward to offering a strong voice for service members — past and present — on the Board while helping Memorial deliver excellence for our province.

I live in St. Philips with my wife Lori and our children, Rebecca and Thomas.

MA'93, M.Ed.'05

Serving on the Board of Regents from 2023-2026 has been an honour as well as a learning experience. I have often felt inadequate to the task because I lack the experience in governance and finance that other Board members bring to the table. But I’m a firm believer that, especially in difficult times, we need people with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives on our Board.

Memorial faces the same issues as other North American universities – the twin challenges of decreased government funding and declining enrolment. We also face the added challenge of being this province’s only university, called upon to serve a wide variety of needs across a huge geographical area with a small population. There are no easy answers to the issues facing our (or any other) university, but part of the solution must be Board members who recognize that a university is more than just the bottom line on its budget. We must continue finding ways to be fiscally responsible without degrading the quality of what MUN offers to the students of this province.

As a writer and a retired teacher, I’m passionate about four things: education, the arts, our province’s history, and social justice. In every discussion I have participated in over three years on the Board of Regents, those passions have been front and centre for me. These will continue to be my priorities if I am fortunate enough to be re-elected for a second term on the Board of Regents.

B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)'95

My Memorial years were foundational in so many ways, and it would be an honour to give back to the university by serving on the Board of Regents. Should I be fortunate enough to win election, I would look to bring a balanced and holistic approach to the role.

I believe that MUN plays a key role in Newfoundland & Labrador’s future, especially in an environment that is increasingly characterized by disruption and changing world orders. To ensure that this continues to be the case, MUN needs to be a financially and strategically sound organization. Much work has already been done, but MUN continues to face headwinds including enrolment and wider economic pressures. The quality of education and student experience however should always be at the forefront of all decisions made by the university to ensure it continues to be a place that MUN students are proud to attend.

I received my B.Comm.(Co-op.)(Hons.) in '95. I hold an MBA from University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management (’01) and Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada. I have volunteered extensively with Rotman and was recently awarded University of Toronto’s Arbor Award (U of T’s award for sustained volunteerism). I have also spent many years volunteering with Scouts Canada. My professional experience is largely in financial services and includes strategy, mergers & acquisitions, budgeting, risk management and corporate governance – which I see as a great fit for this important role.

BA(Hons.)'98

My fellow alumnae,

I'm asking for your vote and support as I step forward for a seat on Memorial's Board of Regents.

I moved into Paton College many decades ago and spent 25 years eating, sleeping, studying, and working on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. Frankly, it was the turkey tetrazzini (IYKYK) at R. Gushue Hall that ignited an engagement with campus life, which eventually led to positions with the Council for Students Union, the Graduate Student Union, and every level of governance from faculty councils to the Senate. After a stint in the real world, and the provincial government, I returned to Memorial as a member of the Student Affairs and Services team, which included positions as the Special Advisor to the Deputy Provost and the Policy Analyst with the International Centre.

In 2014, I went west and joined the team at Quest University in Squamish, BC, where I held senior leadership positions including as the interim Dean of Student Affairs and Athletics. In 2023, when Quest suspended its academic operations, I literally turned off the lights and locked the doors behind me. Sadly, I’ve acquired substantial experience navigating the financial and operational challenges facing postsecondary institutions today.

And as much as I am contented to sit back while everything is fine, I am also compelled to step up when times get rough, or when I’m served turkey tetrazzini. I think this is such a time for our alma mater and I want to join the Board so I can help it through this storm.

BBA'23

As an individual who is passionate about community involvement, I am thrilled to nominate myself for the Board of Regents. Memorial has played an integral role in shaping my academic and professional journey, and it would be an immense honour for me to meaningfully contribute to the university’s long-term strength and sustainability.

In my current role as an Advisor at one of Canada’s leading financial institutions, I have developed a strong foundation in financial awareness, risk consideration, and responsible decision-making. My experience requires balancing client needs with sound judgment, accountability, and adherence to policy principles that closely align with the governance and oversight responsibilities of the Board of Regents.

Beyond my professional experience, I have demonstrated a commitment to community through volunteering and mentoring within the Bangladeshi Student Association at Memorial University. These experiences have strengthened my ability to engage with diverse perspectives and contribute thoughtfully to collaborative environments.

With a background in business and practical exposure to financial systems, I am well positioned to contribute to discussions related to financial stewardship, strategic planning, and institutional accountability. I understand the importance of ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the university’s long-term success. I am prepared to bring a responsible, informed, and forward-looking perspective to the Board of Regents and to serve with integrity and purpose.

B.Sc.(Pharmacy)'06

In 2006, I proudly graduated from Memorial University’s School of Pharmacy. My experience as a student was both personally and professionally formative. Since graduating, I have remained actively engaged with Memorial through precepting pharmacy students, developing and teaching course content, conducting admissions interviews, participating in program accreditation, serving on committees, and attending university events. These experiences have given me valuable insight into academic quality, factors that impact students’ success, and institutional accountability.

Professionally, I have worked as a community pharmacist and health regulator and currently serve as Registrar and CEO of the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador. I hold a Master of Health Management from McMaster University and a Certified Health Executive designation. I bring experience closely aligned with the Board of Regents’ competency profile, particularly in governance, risk management, strategic planning, financial management, communications, and public accountability. My leadership approach is strategic, visionary, and collaborative.

I want to better understand Memorial’s financial and operational challenges and help find solutions for long-term sustainability. Memorial’s meaningful contributions to society through education, research, innovation, and community engagement cannot be overlooked. Memorial plays a vital role in Newfoundland and Labrador’s economic, social, and cultural vitality. Governance decisions must strengthen not only financial resilience but also academic excellence, student experience, and societal impact.

I want Memorial to remain a place that inspires pride and is attractive to prospective students. Serving on the Board of Regents would be an honour and I respectfully ask for your support.

B.Eng.'17

As a proud Memorial graduate and your alumni representative, I lead with integrity, compassion, and empathy. I am seeking re-election to maintain leadership continuity and to safeguard Memorial as a world-class institution.

My journey of community involvement started as a student leader in the Students’ Union and Residence Life, eventually serving on the Board of Regents. This experience connects governance with the everyday realities of our students. I bring diverse public and private sector expertise as an Engineer, Consultant, Oxford MBA, and Institute of Corporate Directors member—recognized globally as an energy industry leader—along with an "open-door" approach to ensure your voices are heard directly in the boardroom.

I have a proven track record of consensus-building and deeply value the trust of my peers on the Board of Regents, which includes students, faculty, ex-officio, LGIC appointees, and alumni representatives, who have twice elected me as Vice-Chair.

Together, we supported the vision that saw Memorial reach the Top 300 globally and MUN Engineering rank in the Top 6 nationally.

However, Higher education is entering a turbulent period characterized by significant financial, demographic, and policy-driven headwinds. To overcome these, I will serve this final term focused on five strategic commitments:

  1. Culture & Community: Fostering a Vibrant, Inclusive, and Respectful campus.
  2. Student-Focused Decisions: Prioritizing the Student Experience at EVERY level.
  3. Accessibility: Keeping world-class education accessible to ALL.
  4. Fiscal Stewardship: Ensure long-term Financial sustainability.
  5. Transparency: Championing a university of the people, by the people, and for the people.

M.Eng.'24

As an immigrant who found a home at Memorial University, I understand firsthand MUN’s role as a unifying force in Newfoundland and Labrador. Earning my Master’s in Electrical Engineering (2024) and receiving the Dean’s Award of Excellence, it gave me the foundation to build my career here. I seek a seat on the Board of Regents to give back and ensure MUN remains a transformative platform for our province's future innovators.

I bring a critical and modern perspective to the Board: the intersection of enterprise AI technology, public service, and entrepreneurship. Serving as an AI Team Lead at Genesis, Project Manager for AI Operations and Strategy at NL Health Services, and CEO of my tech venture, Mallax Vision, my experience gels today's technological needs with the right balance of leadership and critical problem-solving approach.

My broader vision is in alignment with Memorial's strategic priorities. I actively live this commitment by mentoring recent MUN graduates through TechNL, serving as an Executive Advisory Board Member for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and volunteering on the St. John's East Youth Council.

As your alumni representative, I will bring a pragmatic, forward-looking voice to the Board. I will advocate for modernized operations and stronger ties between academia and industry, which is a commitment I live by creating MUN internships at my tech venture. Our alumni network is this province's economic engine. I aim to protect our institution's prestige, champion our graduates, and ensure Memorial builds a prosperous future for Newfoundland and Labrador.

B.Sc.'97, M.Sc.(Medicine)'00

I was born and raised in Blaketown, Trinity Bay, currently living outside Halifax. I am proud of my NL heritage and of being a graduate of Memorial University. I would be honoured to contribute my experience, energy, and commitment to my alma mater and my home province. Memorial has played a central role in my own journey, and I am motivated by a desire to give back in a meaningful way.

I bring more than 20 years of experience in biotechnology, immunology, and scientific leadership, with a career focused on advancing vaccines, immunotherapies, and biologics from discovery through clinical development and commercialization. Along the way, I have led multidisciplinary teams, managed complex programs and budgets, and helped guide organizations through growth, change, and strategic decision-making.

If appointed to the Board, I would bring a strong understanding of research, innovation, governance, and community engagement, along with a collaborative and practical approach. I would work to support Memorial’s strategic priorities by strengthening its research impact, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and helping ensure the University continues to serve Newfoundland and Labrador in bold and relevant ways.

I also have a deep personal passion for science outreach and public engagement. I believe strongly in making science accessible, inspiring curiosity, and connecting research to communities in ways that are meaningful and lasting. That passion has shaped much of my work, and it is something I would bring with me to the Board.

B.Eng.'01, MMM'22

As a proud Newfoundlander and Labradorian, and a graduate of both Memorial University and the Marine Institute, I am offering myself as a candidate for the Board of Regents because I believe deeply in the role Memorial plays in shaping the future of our province. My own education at Memorial and the Marine Institute opened doors, strengthened my sense of purpose, and grounded my commitment to public service. I want to help ensure that future generations

Education is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most powerful tools for long-term resilience and growth. As we face demographic, economic, and technological change, Memorial University must continue to lead in research, innovation, and talent development. To do that effectively, the Board of Regents must operate with transparency, accountability, and a clear focus on the public interest. These principles guide my approach to governance and are central to why I am seeking election.

Over the past 25 years, I have served on a number of non-profit sector boards. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of strategic oversight, responsible stewardship, and collaborative decision-making. They have also reinforced my belief that effective boards listen, ask hard questions, and make decisions grounded in openness and integrity.

I am seeking your support to bring my experience, my commitment to transparent governance, and my passion for education to the Board of Regents. Together, we can help Memorial University continue to serve the people of Newfoundland and Labrador with excellence. I want to help ensure that future generations have access to the same opportunities.

BSW'25

Partnerships are essential. When the shared knowledge of institutions such as Memorial University and Nunavut Arctic College grows, programs strengthen and meaningful opportunities are created for the benefit of all. For this reason, I am seeking election to the Board of Regents as an alumnus of Memorial University. My intent is to ensure that decisions are inclusive of all backgrounds, reflecting Memorial’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

My vision is to support the University in achieving its strategic commitments by strengthening inclusive governance, advancing student success, and promoting culturally relevant and community driven approaches. If we want systems to be responsive, transparent and respectful of diverse knowledge, including Indigenous ways, we need to collaborate, be innovative, and be responsible for stewardship. My vision is to help the university remain adaptable and forward-looking.

I bring over two decades of experience in leadership, human resources, and social services within the public and non-profit sectors. I completed my Bachelor of Social Work on Oct. 16, 2025, strengthening my ability to approach complex issues with a client-centred, ethical and solutions-focused perspective. My career includes senior roles in recruitment, policy interpretation, program delivery and organizational development, along with extensive experience working in northern and cross-cultural environments. I offer strong governance insight, sound decision-making and a commitment to respectful, informed leadership that supports.

B.Eng.'09, MBA'14

I am seeking election as an alumni representative on the Board of Regents at Memorial University to help shape the University’s next chapter.

Memorial is entering the final year of its strategic plan at a defining moment. The next Board will play a critical role in setting direction amid financial pressures, enrolment challenges, and increasing expectations from students, government, industry, and the broader Memorial community. This will require clear priorities, disciplined decision-making, and a willingness to make difficult but necessary choices to ensure long-term sustainability.

If elected, I will focus on three priorities: strengthening financial resilience, reinforcing Memorial’s connection to industry and the provincial economy, and ensuring decisions remain grounded in the student and Memorial community experience as a whole. Memorial has a unique role in Newfoundland and Labrador and must continue to evolve as a driver of opportunity, innovation, and community impact.

I bring senior commercial and governance experience in the engineering and construction sector, with expertise in risk management, contract strategy, and execution. I currently serve on the Board of the Memorial University Recreation Corporation and my past connection to Memorial includes both my engineering degree and MBA, leadership as President of the MBA Student Society, involvement with the IEEE student society and volunteering with the MBA case competitions. I remain actively engaged in the community, including volunteering as a swim official and as a director on both the Masters swim club and local triathlon club committees. As a proud Memorial alumnus, I care deeply about the university’s future and am committed to helping it thrive for decades to come.

B.Eng.'00, M.Eng.'02

As a two-time Memorial alumnus, Bachelor and Master of Applied Science, I am submitting my candidacy for the Board of Regents to give back to the institution that launched my engineering career, and to help secure the same exceptional opportunities for future generations of Memorial students.

Memorial is navigating a critical transitional period that demands strict financial sustainability, a thoughtful right-sizing of operations, and the patient rebuilding of trust within our academic community. My vision is to champion pragmatic, data-driven governance that stabilizes the University’s financial footprint while fiercely safeguarding academic quality, the student experience, and Memorial’s enduring legacy.

I bring substantial executive leadership and national governance experience to the Board. As Founder and President of Hedgehog Technologies, I have scaled a complex engineering firm and successfully delivered multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects across Canada. My tenure as Board President of both Engineers Canada and Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia provides top-tier governance experience at the national and provincial level. Paired with my Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) designation, I bring the strategic oversight, financial discipline, and consensus building skills Memorial needs in this moment.

I would be honoured to earn your vote and serve Memorial during this pivotal chapter.

B.Comm.(Hons.)(Co-op.)'25, BA'25

Pressure is a privilege, signalling opportunity, responsibility, and a genuine stake in the outcome. I believe it marks the moment all preparation has been building toward. Memorial University is in such a moment. As a first-hand beneficiary of its impact, I am excited by this opportunity, feel a responsibility to give back, and have a genuine stake in its future.

On the Board of Regents, I will bring a pragmatic, execution-focused perspective grounded in my passion for Newfoundland and Labrador, high-performance track record, and relevant professional experience. I support disciplined governance, financial stewardship, and strategic foresight towards a vision centered on academic excellence, community and culture, and institutional sustainability.

As a recent graduate with top academic standing and current mentor to Memorial’s business students, I believe expanding outcome-based support for faculty, creating more experiential learning opportunities for students (e.g. The Fund), and increasing student-alumni-industry interactions will enhance student experience, Memorial's reputation, and community ties. Coupled with creative financial strategies, this will strongly position Memorial for generations to come.

My background spans high-performance curling, community leadership, and capital markets. I have represented the province nationally and internationally, channelling this pride into helping bring high-profile events home, including the 2026 Brier, 2025 Canada Summer Games, and 2024 Grand Slam of Curling, focusing on community partnerships. Professionally, I support corporations nationwide with direct investments and capital allocation, financing strategy, and strategic transaction advisory, offering rigorous analysis, risk management, and strong relationship networks.

Pressure is a privilege, as is this opportunity to serve.
