Dr. Tenkorang is a social demographer whose broad research interests focus on the sexual reproductive health of young people in low income settings, in particular, sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi). His recent work involves using multi-level strategies in identifying structural barriers that inhibit safer sexual behaviors, and access to HIV testing and counseling services among vulnerable populations such as those in Africa. Part of this work, which was funded by the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), examined the impact of poverty on risky sexual behaviors among youth in Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Tenkorang has also been working with colleagues on the educational and health outcomes of children of immigrants in Canada.
