Undergraduate Studies in Earth Sciences: Explore Your Potential

The Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial University offers a comprehensive undergraduate program designed to provide students with a solid foundation in geosciences. Our courses cover a wide range of topics, including geology, geophysics, environmental science, and mineral exploration, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education. We also provide exciting field courses that offer hands-on experience in real-world settings, giving students a chance to apply their knowledge outside the classroom.

To apply for a major in Earth Sciences, students should complete their first semester courses, including Earth Sciences (1000), English (1090), Mathematics (1000 or 1090), Chemistry (1050 or 1010), and Physics (1050 or 1020) in the Fall semester. In the winter semester, students can complete their second courses in Earth Sciences (1002), Mathematics (1001 or 1000), Chemistry (1050 or 1051), and Physics (1051 or 1021). This structured pathway ensures that students are well-prepared to pursue their passion for geosciences.

To support your academic journey, we offer student handbooks, academic advising, and opportunities for involvement in the Alexander Murray Club, where you can connect with fellow students and engage in community activities. Scholarships and awards are available to recognize and reward academic excellence, helping to ease the financial burden of your studies.

Additionally, our program prepares students for professional registration as Geoscientists in Newfoundland and Labrador, providing a pathway to a fulfilling career in geosciences. For personalized guidance, we encourage students to book an appointment with our academic advisors.
