The Writing Centre will be CLOSED on Monday, June 24 for the long weekend.
**NEW** Grad Students: Enroll in our Thesis Writing Retreat (August 26-30)!
The Writing Centre is a free facility for all Memorial University students, undergraduate or graduate, who want help with their writing. Our main office is on the second floor of the Science Building, in room SN2053. We also have a desk at The Commons (for undergraduate students only).
The Writing Centre’s mandate is to help Memorial University students become better writers and critical thinkers. We are a peer tutoring centre, which means that all of our tutors are university students trained as writing tutors. Undergraduate tutors work with undergraduate students, and graduate tutors work with graduate students.
The Writing Centre provides one-on-one tutorials, and sessions last for about 45 minutes. Our tutors can help students at every stage of the writing process. They can help with brainstorming, revisions, style, and more. We ask students to please print off a copy of the paper prior to the session.
Hours (Spring 2019 Semester)
To Make Appointments
To book an appointment, please email Diane Ennis: firstname.lastname@example.org.
To book an appointment at the main Writing Centre office, drop by SN2053 or call 864-3168.
To book an appointment at The Commons in the QEII Library, call 864-6159.
Note: Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled and the tutor will work with a drop-in student waiting for help.
Drop-in sessions are available for undergraduate students at the main Writing Centre office (SN2053). However, please be aware that we cannot guarantee that a tutor will be available unless you make an appointment. Our tutors get booked up quickly and are not always available for drop-in sessions. The best way to see a tutor when you need one is to make an appointment.
We have an online system available for distance students living outside the greater St. John's area.
Tutors no longer conduct sessions on laptops. Please bring a hard copy of your work to your session. Exemptions to this policy are granted by the Director where special circumstances exist.
For simple questions concerning our hours, policies, etc., please email email@example.com.
