Dr. Diane Gutiw

Vice President, Global AI Research Centre Lead, CGI 

Diane holds a PhD (Capella University) where she conducted doctoral research on medical AI/expert system solution modeling and adoption, as well as post-doctoral certifications in Medical AI and Healthcare Digital Transformation from Harvard Medical School. Diane is currently leading AI Applied Research and a team of Management Consultants in Canada focused on designing and delivering strategic advisory services including the AI Augmented Future of Work for clients. 

Diane is currently the Co-Chair of the Canadian government’s Advisory Council on AI, an advisor to the Welsh Strategic AI Council as well as an advisor to the EU AI Commission Plenary advising on the Code of Conduct for the EU AI ACT. Diane is also currently a member of the Canadian Task Force advancing the federal AI strategy.

Diane has served as a lecturer at Simon Fraser University, co-developed and delivered curriculum for the University of British Columbia's Data Science in Medicine program, collaborates with the University of Victoria on AI literacy research, and serves on the advisory board of a new PhD program in AI Engineering. Diane has also lectured on Evidence Based Policing for the School of Criminology at Cambridge University and on AI Literacy at St Andrew’s University.

Diane was the recipient of the Most Disruptive Award 2026 for North America by Women in Tech, and in 2025 was awarded the Responsible AI Leader of the Year award for North America by Women in AI.

Keynote Address: The Shifting Conversation with AI

Building a stronger understanding of the opportunities and challenges related to artificial intelligence requires looking beyond the walls of our institutions and exploring what is happening all around us. In this keynote presentation, Dr. Gutiw will provide an overview on what AI is as well as the direction and policy stance that is being taken globally and in Canada through the AI for All Strategy and associated tabled protection legislation (C36 and C34).

Using examples, the presentation will explore who is currently getting value from investments in AI and how post-secondary universities are approaching AI Literacy, AI as a research tool, and the development and delivery of AI programs across different faculties.

While the future of AI remains difficult to predict, Dr. Gutiw will draw on her experience and expertise to describe where this work is leading and how we can leverage the advancements and capabilities with appropriate guardrails to ensure we safely advance knowledge for social and societal good.
