Presently my main research interests are centered on rock magnetic properties and their physical origin as well as paleomagnetism and Late Precambrian - Early Paleozoic plate tectonics.
I have concentrated on improving our understanding of how rocks acquire and retain stable magnetization. This is then applied to help improve the reliability of paleomagnetic studies - including my own which have dealt mostly with the Newfoundland Appalachians and the history of the Iapetus Ocean. In future, I plan to attempt direct radiometric dating of the iron-titanium oxides that often carry the paleomagnetic record.
