Perkins+Will views energy, sewage, water and accompanying utility systems as resources for sustainable neighbourhoods. Individual building performance results in community-wide energy performance. Whether buildings are new or revitalized, district energy systems are essential for the future of community infrastructure. The scale of neighbourhoods and cities make them ideal catalysts for the synergies required for deep green solutions to our energy and carbon emissions challenges.
Peter Busby will take an in-depth look at Perkins+Will’s leading sustainable projects including the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) and the VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre, buildings at the community level and the growth of new cities, in particular the Edmonton City Centre Airport Lands Development. CIRS is one of the greenest building in North America, VanDusen is a regenerative building pursuing the Living Building Challenge and the Edmonton Redevelopment is the largest urban design competition in Canadian history. All projects are designed to achieve carbon neutral, looking beyond their individual sites to affect change at a community level.
