The laboratory of Dr. Brian E. Staveley in the Department of Biology at Memorial
University has recently received a $45,000 Pilot Project grant from the National
Research Program of the Parkinson Society Canada.
The project, entitled "The Pink1-parkin-Paris-Pgc-1a pathway in Drosophila models of Parkinson disease", builds upon an established research program to address the role of genes recently implicated in Parkinson disease. The award, $45,000 for a period of
one year, will greatly aid in the laboratory's investigation of the basic biological mechanisms that underly neural degeneration that lead to the development of Parkinson disease.
Funding is awarded in partnership with
1) Fond Saucier – Van Berkom – Parkinson Society Québec &
2) Parkinson Society Newfoundland & Labrador.
