Nine excellent talks from graduate students and 5 posters from undergraduate summer students were presented at the first Biochemistry Summer Symposium held on 18 August 2011 at the Fluvarium.
The poster and oral presentations showed terrific research and information, and all of the participants are to be congratulated on the quality of their work.
There were two prizes for best oral presentations and two for the best posterpresentations - all generously donated by Invitrogen/Life Technologies Inc. The competition was very close among the participants but, in the end, the awards went to:
- First place ($100 Visa gift card): Timothy Hynes (from Dr. S. Christian'slab).
- Runner-up ($50 Visa gift card): Luke MacMillan (from Dr. J. Brosnan's lab)
GRADUATE ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
- First place ($100 Visa gift card): James Pius (from Dr. V. Booth's lab)
- Runner-up ($50 Visa gift card): Nicole Smith (from Dr. S. Christian's lab)
Thanks go to the Biochemistry Graduate Student's Society, Dr. S. Christian, and Dr. R. Brown for conceiving and organizing the event, and to the following Sponsors: Department of Biochemistry, CIHR Delegate Fund, Graduate Students' Union, School of Graduate Studies, and Invitrogen/Life Technologies), whose support helped bring the event to fruition.
