Technology Tutoring

 The Commons offers one-on-one support to all students, faculty, and staff in general computing, Microsoft Office software, multimedia editing, and assistive technologies. This service is completely FREE and caters to all levels of experience and knowledge.

Students can book tutorials with us using Navigate. Please select The Commons as your appointment type. Please indicate the program you would like to be tutored in, as well as any specific tools/features you'd like to chat about.

Winter 2024 Technology Workshops

We are hosting the following workshops this semester. Please note that all in-person sessions take place in the Commons Classroom (L-2028). Online workshops are hosted via Webex.

This is an online session

This workshop will cover the absolute basics of Blender and how to use the interface to bring your ideas to life. Blender is a free, open source, computer graphics software tool used for all things animated and 3D!

Explore the possibilities of creating your own website! Use it to connect with employers, or to showcase your digital portfolio, resume, or finished projects! In this workshop, we'll learn about establishing your website and deciding on its layout, as well as the basic markup language tools (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) needed to format and personalize your website.

This workshop will cover the basics of how to use your Google Drive as a cloud-based storage system. If you're someone who wants to up your file storage game, this workshop is for you.

In this workshop, we will go beyond the basics and learn how to use Blender (a powerful, free 3D graphics software) to create a movie scene from scratch. No prior experience with 3D graphics software needed.

Between online flashcards, to open resource study material created by other students, to apps developed to limit the number of distractions - this workshop will showcase a few of these options and demonstrate how best to use them.

Beginner to presentations? Don't stress! Learn how to insert cool images, include data and graphs, and personalize it to your own liking in this workshop! Will also include tips to ace your verbal presentation skills! No prior experience needed, although we do encourage you to have PowerPoint installed on your personal device (available for free to currently registered students via the Student tab on my.mun.ca)
