Applicants wishing to be admitted to the Graduate Diploma in Arctic and Subarctic Futures are encouraged to hold an undergraduate degree, in a related area, from an institution recognized by Senate, and will normally be eligible to register in the Master of Arctic and Subarctic Futures programs. Applicants who do not meet this requirement may still be considered for admission into the program based on lived experience, professional, and/or leadership contributions to Arctic and Subarctic regions.

1. The graduate diploma requires the completion of four courses, including:

   • SASS 6000: Learning Labrador
   • SASS 6001: People, Place, and Identity

2. And two additional courses from:

   • SASS 6002: Indigenous and Northern-Led Theories & Methodologies
   • SASS 6004: Arctic and Subarctic Indigenous Legal Traditions and Advocacy
   • SASS 6005: Systems for Health and Wellness in the Circumpolar North
   • SASS 6006: Decolonizing Arctic and Subarctic Media Production
   • SASS 6801: International Northern Contexts (offered in accelerated format)
   • SASS 6800-6840: Special topics in Arctic and Subarctic studies (excluding SASS 6801)

Students for the Graduate Diploma in Arctic and Subarctic Futures must obtain a grade of ‘B’ or better in all program courses.
