Structured Practice Experience Program

Experiential learning is invaluable in a full educational experience - bridging the gap between academic study and practice.

The Structured Practice Experience (SPE) Program is an integral component of the course of study leading to the Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) degree, and will be an important aspect of our Entry-to-Practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

Under the direct supervision of pharmacist preceptors, students are given the opportunity to apply their university-gained knowledge and training to deal with patients and practice situations in order to achieve proficiency and competency in performing the functions of a pharmacist.

The SPE Program includes practice experiences throughout the program and a sustained practice experience during the final year as follows:

• Four weeks in a community pharmacy at the end of the Winter Semester in the first year of the Pharmacy program (Pharmacy 201W)

• Four weeks in an institutional setting at the end of the Winter Semester in the second year of the Pharmacy program (Pharmacy 302W)

• Four weeks in a community pharmacy at the end of the Winter Semester in the third year of the Pharmacy program (Pharmacy 403W)

• Twelve weeks in clinical practice during the Winter Semester of the final year of the Pharmacy program (Pharmacy 500X)

See the university calendar for further information on the SPE Program.
