D.F Cook Recital Hall and Suncor Energy Hall
Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
We are excited to announce Memorial University’s Horn Day 2018! This fun celebration of horn playing and pedagogy is open to all interested students, community members, and teachers. Our special guest artist is Dr. Kiirsi Maunula Johnson, currently on faculty at the Crane School of Music, Potsdam, NY.
Horn Day will include a variety of sessions and music making opportunities, including fun horn choir experience that all participants can join! An afternoon concert will feature Dr. Maunula Johnson, Emily Dunsmore (principal horn of the NSO), Dr. Alan Klaus, and the MUN Brass Choir.
To register, please complete the Application Form and email it to Dr. Alan Klaus (firstname.lastname@example.org). We will also need a completed Consent Form, signed by parents/guardians for all applicants under age 18 and a Media Consent Form for applications 18 and older. You can bring the Consent Form to Horn Day or fax it in advance to 864-2666.
Registrations will be accepted on the day of the event but early submissions are appreciated to help us plan. A $30 registration fee is due in cash at Horn Day and covers all sessions and the concert. Feel free to contact Dr. Alan Klaus in advance if you need a fee reduction/waiver in order to attend.

What levels of players are welcome at the Horn Day?
All levels! If you play or teach horn, this weekend will have something for you.
I play another brass instrument. Can I still come to Horn Day?
Definitely! The concepts in many of the workshops will apply to all brass instruments and the concert will include brass chamber music in addition to horn repertoire.
I’m an adult player. Is this day just for kids?
Not at all! The workshop sessions are targeted to different levels of development, and more experienced and mature musicians are definitely welcome. Dr. Maunula Johnson's classes will be inspiring even for professional musicians!
How will my child be supervised at Horn Day?
While in workshops and rehearsals your child will be under the supervision of the workshop leader. If you have concerns about your child’s participation in the day, consider attending for all or part of it with your child.
Will food be provided?
Participants should bring their snacks, if desired. There is a water bottle filling station in the School of Music. There are minimal food services available on the Memorial campus on the weekend.
Please do not pack nuts in your snacks, as there are some individuals with serious allergies to tree nuts. Please also refrain from wearing scented products (including hand creams, shampoos and other personal grooming products) into the School. Memorial is a scent-free campus.
