Trumpet Fest

Memorial University School of Music
Saturday, October 24 from 10am to 6pm

We are excited to announce Memorial University’s Trumpet Fest 2015! This special day of trumpet playing and pedagogy is open to all interested students, community members, and teachers. In addition to excellent local faculty, we will have Grammy Award winning trumpeter Dr. Christopher Moore visiting us from Florida State University.

Trumpet Fest will include a wide variety of sessions and music making opportunities culminating in a concert celebrating the trumpet at 4pm! Potential session topics include group warm-ups, improving fundamentals, trumpet/mouthpiece anatomy, building range, playing with braces, and performance psychology. The concert will blast off with a mass trumpet choir that is open to all participants.

To register, please complete the Application Form and email it to Dr. Alan Klaus (aklaus@mun.ca). We will also need a completed Consent Form, signed by parents/guardians for all applicants under age 18 and a Media Consent Form for applications 18 and older. You can bring the Consent Form to Trumpet Fest or fax it in advance to 864-2666.

Registrations will be accepted on the day of the event but early submissions are appreciated to help us plan. A $20 registration fee is due at Trumpet Fest and covers all sessions, the concert, and the reception. Please make cheques payable to Memorial University. Feel free to contact Dr. Alan Klaus in advance if you need a fee waiver in order to attend.

FAQ

What levels of players are welcome at the Trumpet Fest?
All levels! If you play or teach trumpet, this day will have something for you.

I play another brass instrument. Can I still come to Trumpet Fest?
Definitely! The concepts in many of the workshops will apply to all brass instruments and the concert will include brass chamber music in addition to trumpet repertoire.

I’m an adult player. Is this day just for kids?
Not at all! The workshop sessions are targeted to different levels of development, and more experienced and mature musicians are definitely welcome. Dr. Moore’s classes will be inspiring even for professional trumpeters!

How will my child be supervised at Trumpet Fest?
While in workshops and rehearsals your child will be under the supervision of the workshop leader. At lunch and on nutrition breaks we will be monitoring participants, but we will not be providing continuous supervision. If you have concerns about your child’s participation in the day, consider attending for all or part of it with your child.

Will food be provided?
There will be some food at the reception after the concert but participants should bring their own lunch and an afternoon snack. There is a water bottle filling station in the School of Music. There are almost no food services available on the Memorial campus on Saturdays, so a packed lunch is really the way to go.

Allergy Alert!
Please do not pack nuts in lunches or snacks, as there are some individuals with serious allergies to tree nuts. Please also refrain from wearing scented products (including hand creams, shampoos and other personal grooming products) into the School. Memorial is a scent-free campus.
