Recent Virus/Spyware Activity on campus - Aug 3rd, 2010

The Department of Computing and Communications would like to caution users that we have been seeing an increased volume of virus activity in recent weeks. In particular, we have encountered several incidents of a new variant of the Zeus virus which is currently not well recognized by virus scanners. This virus may be capable of recording a user's keystrokes, including usernames, passwords, and banking credentials. We are working with the University's approved anti-virus vendor McAfee, however C&C would like to strongly caution users against opening attachments they were not expecting to receive, and in particular, zip files claiming to be UPS or Tax related.
