Chinese Government Scholarship 2022-2023

Overview

The Chinese Government Scholarship was created to promote academic and cultural exchanges in various fields between China and other countries. The Chinese government has provided a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. The China Scholarship Council entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of the Chinese Government Scholarship programs. In order to apply for this scholarship, candidate must:

  1. Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student currently attending the Memorial University of Newfound
  2. Be a Canadian citizen and able to travel to China with a valid Canadian passport
  3. Be able to speak basic Chinese/Mandarin
  4. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (out of 4)
  5. Submit a completed both internal and external application package by the required deadlines

Application

  1. Submit internal application package
    1. An Internal application form
    2. A letter of intent
    3. A letter of academic reference
    4. An updated resume or curriculum vitae.
  2. Submit external application and supporting documents
    1. China Scholarship Council application form completed, printed and signed (with a recent photo)
    2. Copy of passport (photo page)
    3. Enrollment verification letter from the Memorial University of Newfoundland
    4. Official academic transcripts
    5. A study plan or research proposal in Chinese or English
    6. Recommendation letters for graduate programs or senior scholar programs
    7. Valid documents of the legal guardians in China (if the Applicant is under the age of 18)
    8. A Criminal Record Screening Certificate. The applicant shall submit a valid Criminal Record Screening Certificate issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
    9. Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The physical examination form and lab reports should be submitted online by March 8, 2022. The physical examination report is valid for 6 months only.
  3. Apply for pre-admission letters from three Chinese universities
  4. Upload pre-admissions letter(s) to the designated online platform
  5. Receive a final decision from the China Scholarship Council

Selection Criteria

  • Academic standing (based on the cumulative GPA)
  • Strengths of the letter of intent and letter of references
  • Likelihood to enhance the language skills and academic development
