Synergy Session: Barriers to Gender Equity: A New Look at Women's Employment Policies and Programs
Monday March 27, 2017 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
McCann Centre (ED 2030B)
The participation of women in STEM occupations (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) remains low, despite several decades of attention from policy makers, industry, and educational institutions. In Canada, between 1991 and 2011, women accounted for 75% of the growth in the number of workers in university-level non-scientific occupations, but only 27% in scientific occupations.
This session will highlight some of the reasons why this lack of participation has persisted. We will also discuss the efficacy of current policies and regulations with the goal of identifying new research directions to improve participation outcomes.
