Re-Imagining Rural Newfoundland and Labrador

WATCH LIVE

Memorial University’s Harris Centre and Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador have teamed up with “Docudance” producer, Louise Moyes, to host a panel discussion on the role of the arts in economic and social development in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. As part of the opening performance of Moyes’ latest one-woman multi-disciplinary show, Taking in Strangers, which threads together stories from Newfoundland and Quebec and explores themes like rural development, homelessness, and mental health, the panel discussion will feature filmmaker-choreographer Anne Troake, business leader and arts advocate John Fisher, and former chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and Labrador Inuit music specialist Tom Gordon.

In addition to sharing their own visions for the future of rural Newfoundland and Labrador, the panelists will speak to the role of arts-based tourism in rural revitalization, the state of funding for artistic and cultural endeavors, and the role of the arts in public policy. The performance and panel will be webcast live.

Tickets for the performance are $28.00 ($22.00 for seniors, students, artists and groups of 5+) and can be purchased at the LSPU Hall, 3 Victoria Street, St. John’s, at www.rca.nf.ca or by calling (709) 753-4531
