Enhanced Oil Recovery

Offshore Newfoundland has more than 20 billion barrels of oil, a significant portion of which will be left in the reservoir if the current recovery practices are followed. A major portion of this “stranded oil” is in reservoirs technically and economically amenable to enhanced oil recovery (EOR) using carbon dioxide (CO2) injection. Our research involves researching on different effluents effect on oil recovery and develop a strategy for offshore Newfoundland that will be environmentally and financially viable. To date number of EOR effluents have been tested that include different gases, chemicals and surfactants.
