Community Hubs

Memorial's Community Hubs Initiative helped create shared, community-run spaces in towns across Newfoundland and Labrador that fostered opportunities for community learning, collaboration and capacity building.

The 14 Community Hubs were located in primarily rural areas across Newfoundland and Labrador. The hubs were community spaces where people could access the Internet, technology, and have a place to work, study, or collaborate. By working with partners (community groups, provincial organizations, governments, educational institutions, etc.) that already operate buildings in communities, the Community Hubs program provided technology support, Internet access, other equipment, and/or programming support to increase access and opportunity within existing spaces.

Each Community Hub differed slightly as each community partner had its own culture and personality, as well as its own needs and challenges. We collaborated with communities with existing public structures to help increase access and capacity and worked with each partner to uniquely co-design the space and determine needed supports.
