Engagement at Memorial
Memorial University is a public university, serving the public good. As one of Canada’s most publicly engaged universities, public engagement is a core area of focus and responsibility for Memorial.
What is Engagement at Memorial?
Engagement, also known as public engagement, is a collaboration between people and groups within Memorial and those outside the University that furthers both Memorial’s academic mission and the priorities of our public and community partners.
We use the term “public” to refer to a broad range of people and groups outside the University, including non-governmental organizations, Indigenous groups, community organizations, industry associations, and governments.
What is the Public Engagement Framework?
The Public Engagement Framework (2012-2020) is a guiding document for people doing and supporting publicly engaged research, teaching and learning, and public and community partnerships at Memorial. View the Public Engagement Framework (2012-2020).
The Framework offers a long-term vision, values, and goals, along with straightforward objectives for students, faculty and staff to work towards, both in terms of individual projects and in planning and decision-making.
The Public Engagement Framework underwent a renewal process in 2023 and is anticipated to be launched in the winter of 2026. Learn more about the renewal process.
